These Were the Most Popular Dog Breeds So Far in 2021

Most popular doesn’t always mean the best, but if millions of dog owners are choosing certain breeds, there might be some truth to it. Check out our list of the most popular dog breeds so far in 2021, and what makes them such good dogs.

#15 – Siberian Husky

The first entry on our list is Siberian Huskies, beautiful dogs that were recently in the news when Texas was hit by a snowstorm in early 2021:

#14 – Boxer

Boxers have a lot of energy and spunk, which has made them popular with celebrities such as Cesar Millan, Chelsea Handler, and Gisele Bundchen.

#13 – Australian Shepherd

Two fun facts about this breed: it actually originated in the US in the 19th century, and is one of very few breeds to commonly have heterochromia (meaning two different colored eyes).

#12 – Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkies are a toy breed, which means that they’re especially good dogs for those who are worried about the size (or strength) of a larger animal. They make great personal companions.

#4 – French Bulldog

The smaller cousin of the Bulldog, French Bulldogs have risen astronomically in popularity. One famous example is AOC’s dog Deco.

#3 – Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are beautiful, happy dogs that have long been popular in America–just look at the Airbud movies.

#2 – German Shepherd

German Shepherds are gentle and protective dogs that will serve families well, provided that they are given the proper training. They’re been a long-time favorite, thanks to the monks of New Skete who became famous for training these beautiful dogs.

#1 – Laborador Retriever

Unsurprisingly, Labrador Retrievers top the list for the 30th year in a row. These pups are slobbery, loving family dogs.

The real #1 breed: mixed breeds!

All of the earlier breeds on the list were purebreds, but according to Rover, the most popular dog breed is not purebred at all, but mixed breed pups!
